Dear Apple, WDS really doesn't work. Also, props on using IPv6 for sending the itunes music stream so I don't need to route the music, however, if I am streaming to 4 airport expresses, why don't you for heavens sake use multicast instead of sending the same UDP packet 4 times over the air with the only difference being the destination IP.

Wow. I know that it's a rule that when you learn a new word, suddenly it'll turn up everywhere. But I found out about IPv6 yesterday and now it's in your LJ post. Cooool.

You are welcome :)

Sorry, didn't mean to offend, I guess that it would be nice if WDS was marked as not really working so I didn't have to waste time on it.

I didn't know that the multicast rateis only 1Mbs. So unicast UDP is 54 Mbs and multicast drops it down to 1 Mbps? Does it affect all communication or only the multicast?

So I had problems with clients jumping between different WDS hosts and then going off air for a while, or not being able to reach each other.

So I set the main base station that is in one corner of the apartment to not allow clients and now it seems to be working well, and only allow one that is in the middle, then have all clients and other base stations connect to that.

When are Airport Expresses with 802.11n come out, or why doesn't the extreme have an audio port :).

p1) It seems like they develop split brain or something. Since I don't have any real gear I cannot debug more.

p2) I know I know, but it was worth a fun shot at it :D

thanks for the responses!

aha, interestingly i noticed we share a friends in justjenine, substitue and torgo_x

I noticed something with the printer sharing, it seems to use ipv6 to find the printer, but then when I try to print it reverts to using ipv4, is this driver specific?

So I have th airport network on a different ipv4 network than my machines (they all have public IPs), so when it tries ipv4 it hangs forever and never switchs to ipv6. airtunes however just works by virtue of using ipv6
