I thought,

Sony = evil.
eBooks = DRM = evil.

?

What part would you, Mr. Bergman, consider not evil about this?

Sony = teh evil, but that eBook reader can handle run-of-the-mill pdf's, which seems great until you read:

"And with 64MB of internal memory..."

How many pdf books from o'reilly's safari can you fit on 64mb? one? maybe two? it's got an sd slot which leaves me feeling nonplussed. how tough would it have been to throw an 8gb flash drive in there? it wouldn't weigh that much more and would bump up the price - but it'd be worth it!

Yeah, it looked cool until I saw it had ass for memory.
I could only fit like 1/2 of a D&D book on there.. :(

"The Sony® Reader offers a unique, on-the-go reading experience. With a very compact and light design you can take it almost anywhere. And with 64MB of internal memory3, and a slot for optional removable memory cards you can take many titles, user-selected Web content, or other supported documents for reading on the go. Will hold up to 80 electronic books in internal memory and hundreds more with Memory Stick® media or SD memory card4 (sold separately)."

So I presume a could put a 1GB stick in there?

You *could* but the snobbery of owning an eBook reader would be greatly diminished by using -gasp- removable media. What is this, the middle ages?

But having just price-checked a 4gb SD card at under $90 over at newegg, it doesn't sound that bad, actually.

What? Not memory stick. I'm honestly surprised.

The PDF part of it.

But yes, everything else about it is pure evil. But damnit, I want to replace a lot of my normal books with PDF books.

Hip euro-startups building the competition, are, however, not evil.

I saw one at euro-oscon. Dear god was it sexy.
