I wasn't forewarned that I would hit a news post. I am a perl hacker that lately have worked for Fotango in London and moved here to San Francisco to join the LJ team.
My background is mostly within the perl world, I hacked a lot on the perl core and I have a bunch of modules on CPAN.
Hello, I've arrived via the news
post that mentioned you.
Welcome to the LiveJournal community, and thank you for joining 6A! I think my jaw literally dropped and my eyes bugged out of my head when I saw that Larry Wall was a supporter of your visa petition, but judging by your resume, I can see why! SVL sure looked cool, and what I've read about the improved threading you've been working on these past 4+ sounds very exciting! Any specific plans in optimizing / cleaning up LiveJournal's codebase, or are you hard at work on other projects?
I have no real specific plans of my own, there are obvious things we want to do, like make sure email always work :) for example. Sadly I am not really programming much, the first thing I had to do when I joined was work on the data center move, but that was amazingly fun.
It's amazing to be here, been wanting to move to the bay area for a long time and it is exciting to join a project that has so many users.

Ah, I had been vaguely wondering where you'd gone! Good to hear you're enjoying your new job.
I managed to escape the dreadful slavery of London :)
